We work throughout Sydney, regional and coastal areas outside the ‘big smoke’, as well as projects in New Zealand.
We are committed to designing bespoke and well crafted buildings and spaces for passionate clients that respond uniquely to the site to which they belong.
We offer to our clients;
Design - The creation of crafted architectural spaces inside and out, and interior design.
Execution - Architect lead project management of the building design, consultant team, council and complying development approval processes, project documentation, tendering and cost processes with builders, architectural design and QA services during construction including Contract Administration between you and your Builder.
We believe quality architecture can enrich the experience, daily life, and well being of inhabitants. We seek to distill a spirit of place, and celebrate it through our ideas and architecture, in order for our spaces to belong, uplift, and inspire.
Each client and brief is approached as a unique creative and personal relationship. Clients become an integral part of the creative process with design solutions presented, collaboratively discussed and enhanced during the design stage. The creative process is underpinned by pragmatic solutions, economic realities, authority approvals and construction methodology gained from over a decade of architectural experience.
We seek a varying type and scale of project. In all projects we seek is the common goal between all involved for a passionate vision and a high quality and creative result. Our clients and project experience include individual dwellings and apartments, multi-residential developments, and hospitality and lifestyle businesses.
Environmental sustainability is inherent in our design thinking. We focus on the climate, environment and orientation of the site to set up a sensible and responsible design approach. Technology and construction systems then enhance the outcome.
The practice holds in high regard the collaborative nature of architectural design and others vital to the construction process. We always aim for genuine relationships with our network to ensure we maintain great service, advice, trust and quality results. Builders, subcontractors, engineers, town planners, landscape designers, private certifiers, council officers, product suppliers, artists - and the list goes on - great relationships ensure our creative concepts as documented are accurately communicated, enhanced with the expertise of our network, and delivered.

Michael Cumming is a Registered Architect with the Architect Registration Boards of NSW and New Zealand, and currently undertakes work across Australia and New Zealand. With over 20 years of post graduate architectural experience, as Director of Michael Cumming Architect pty ltd (MCA) , Michael is involved in every facet of the business and each and every project design and execution.
He founded MCA with a vision and commitment to create crafted and resolved architectural and interior spaces that seek simplicity through refined spatial planning and proportion, beautiful and engaging materiality, and that have connection to nature, light and air. He believes each design should be a unique response brought about by a collaboration between the Client, the Architect and the Site to which the project belongs.
Michael’s work has been published extensively, awarded Habitus House of The Year, and the practice shortlisted for the Institute of Architects NSW EmAGN Project Award celebrating emerging architectural practice. Michael completed the Sydney University Bachelor of Architecture program in 2007 with First Class Honours and was awarded with the Ethel M Chettle Prize in Architecture. He has since enjoyed education roles at the University of Sydney.
Michael’s extensive experience includes the design and delivery of coastal, urban, regional and heritage houses, high end apartment developments, and highly acclaimed restaurants, bars and hospitality venues across Sydney.

Nic Glass is a Registered Architect with the Architect Registration Board of NSW. With over 15 years of post graduate architectural experience, Nic has overseen the design and delivery of architectural projects in London and Sydney of varying scales, from bespoke houses to hospitality venues to state of the art education and sporting centers.
Originally from South Africa, Nic completed Architectural Studies in London, at Greenwich University, Kingston University, and the AA Architectural Association. Working in London, and now residing permanently in Sydney, Nic has a well rounded grasp of international experience. Nic is driven by a love of design, and has a wealth of experience and tenacity for delving into technical aspects of projects to ensure execution from design to delivery.
